Angela Habr has been with Strive since March of 2011. Before that she directed GirlPOWER!, a school-based girls’ mentoring program in Bronzeville. Angela, also a certified yoga instructor, completed a B.A. (with honors) in sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2002. After making her way to Chicago in 2003, she began working in Human Resources at the historic Marshall Field’s on State Street. She went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Social Services Administration from the University of Chicago in 2007, and received the Evelyn Harris Ginsburg Memorial Prize.
In her free time, she volunteers in community greening initiatives, oversees construction projects as her building’s condo board president, centers herself through a regular yoga practice, and delights in her time with her husband and daughters.
Janak has been with Strive since Summer of 2016. Before that he spent 22 years teaching middle school mathematics, language arts and social studies in CPS. Janak grew up attending public schools and playing baseball in Hyde Park. He attended Knox College and holds a Master's Degree in School Leadership from Concordia University in Chicago. His experience is valuable in supporting tutors, developing rich learning experience for students as well as maintaining a positive learning environment at Strive.

Howard Cohn, Director
Howard is Vice-President of Executive Banking at the Hyde Park Bank, a Wintrust Bank, and has held this position for over nine years. Previously, he was co-owner of Cohn & Stern Store for Men, a family business located Hyde Park for nearly 55 years. Howard has served on a number of boards including the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, the Southeast Chicago Commission, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, Chicago Sinai Congregation and K.A.M. Isaiah Israel. He and his wife have raised their two daughters in Hyde Park and now are proud grandparents.

Katrinka Markowitz, Director
Katrinka Markowitz Buckley has an extensive background in the financial regulatory industry with 35 years of experience as a banking regulator. In her current position as an Associate Deputy Comptroller Analyst, Katrinka has responsibility for several projects pertaining to financial analysis, quality management, and training and development. Her strong financial, communication, and project planning skills are positive contributions to Strive's Board.
Strive's volunteers are essential to our program! Our volunteers come from the surrounding southside Chicago community, many of whom are affiliated with the University of Chicago.
